EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing is a therapy designed to resolve distressing memories that lead to PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder). Anxiety, panic attacks, depression, eating disorders, addictive behaviours, insomnia/nightmares, chronic pain and exhaustion are some of the many psychological symptoms that can result from unresolved trauma. The causes of trauma are varied and can include childhood issues/abuse/neglect, any type of abuse or violence, car accidents, traumatic medical interventions, natural disasters, war - there is an endless list. Any overwhelming event from the past can cause us to feel ’stuck’ and distressed.

EMDR therapy is an awesome technique as it processes the memory, so when you think of the trauma it feels like is a far distant memory, and has no more power over emotions or behaviours.

EMDR therapy tends to require fewer sessions, and is also less intrusive and distressing than current conventional treatments, as there is no need to talk about details of the trauma. It has been shown to be effective in many scientific studies, and is recommended by the World Health Organisation.
